Pal Joey: Showgirls (2008) For Pal Joey’s showgirls, flower inspired headdresses were light as a feather and tall as a skyscraper. A daffodil inspired showgirl designed by William Ivey Long for the Roundabout’s Pal Joey. The paniers that support the skirt are made from heavy gauge piano wire, woven and soldered. The gladiola petals are organza, individually shaped and the stems are supported with carbon fiber rod extended with piano wire. The headdress is mounted to a protoplast base, custom fitted to each performer’s head in wig prep.
